works
Pieces we've made with mubone. It started as Kalun alone with a trombone; then two of us; then the whole group; and sometimes the building joins in too.
-
Love Letters to a Third Culture Kid
Fifty-odd notes Kalun's parents left him on the backs of phone bills. None say “I love you.” All of them are about food. Our first piece with three mubones at once.
-
Conversations with Space and Architecture
A series where the building gets to play too. We listen to a place, leave sounds all over it, and by the end the walls are covered in them.
-
Migrations
Kalun and Bettina, both newcomers to Montréal, move through Hong Kong street sounds played across more than forty speakers.
-
Ensemble In Situ
Mubone with a group of improvisers. The other players stand around the room like sound statues, and the trombone points at whoever it wants to hear.
-
Garcia
The first mubone piece. Kalun's childhood nanny found him on Facebook after decades and sent photos of a childhood he doesn't remember.
-
Movement Etudes for Improvisors
An early detour: mubone on clarinets, written for the NYU New Music Ensemble.
